Most of us do not look forward to old age, but since growing old is inevitable—we want to do it with grace. If you’ll follow these tips, you may just find that aging isn’t all that bad after all. In fact, your best years may still be in front of you.

 Health- If you aren’t in the best of health, maybe you need to make some lifestyle changes; eat better, drink less alcohol and more water, start a fitness regimen of some kind even if it’s just walking 4-5 days a week, and practice some basic stretching techniques to at least keep your back in working order.

 Sleep- Most of us do not get enough sleep. Though you may think you only need 4-5 hours a night, research strongly supports that you should get a minimum of 6.5 to 8 hours every night. That’s best achieved if you stick to a plan of going to bed and getting up at the same times daily. Just as sleep deprivation shows up in your face and the way you move about, so does consistently getting an adequate amount of sleep.

 Skin- Protect your skin from the sun, and utilize a daily skin regimen that fits you. A little sun is good for you, as it causes your body to produce natural vitamin D, but too much will make you look older than you are at some point down the road. When you go out apply moisturizers that include at least an SPF of 15. Be sure to wash your face twice a day, and seek quality advice on what cleanser to use, as well as what makeup is best for your skin type. Drinking pure water every day, 8 glasses, also does wonders for helping maintain youthful skin.

 Stress- You’ve got to figure out a way to eliminate the stress in your life, or at least a way to keep it to a minimum or deal with it effectively. Stress will definitely age you much faster than you may realize. Don’t let little things, or little people, bring you down. If you have to, make new friends, find another job, and get counseling in your marriage, if needed. Whatever it takes to live a more stress free life, find a way to do it and don’t give up until you do.

 Purpose- As you get older your purpose in life can sort of fade away if you’re not careful, especially if you’ve had children and now they’re all grown and out of the house. With the primary purpose of doing a good job of raising them and providing for their education all behind you, it’s a good idea to not let your new purpose in life become that of a couch potato. Too much television, regardless of what you watch, is not healthy and can add a few years to your appearance over time. This doesn’t have to get too deep. If you put your mind to it, you should be able to come up with something that interests you, makes you look forward to getting up each morning, or to getting off work.

As you follow these few simple tips, you will experience what it’s like to age gracefully and hopefully find what many others have found—getting older can be rewarding and fun!
