While it isn’t terribly difficult to do, there are a few things that you need to know in order to keep that youthful and vibrant look. Depending on the type skin you have, whether it’s oily or dry, there may be some variances to what you need to be doing, but the following will provide you with the most important basics.

Probably the most important thing you can do is limit your time out in the sun, and make sure you wear at least a 15 SPF sunscreen daily when you do go out. Wrinkles, premature aging, age spots, and even cancer of the skin, are all caused by damage from UV rays. Protecting your skin from the sun will alone go a long ways towards keeping your skin looking young and healthy as you continue to age. Ideally, use a moisturizer or natural product that contains sunscreen and apply it when you get up in the morning. That way you don’t risk going outside and forgetting about it.

Another important step you need to take towards keeping that youthful look is to drink lots of water. You hear it all the time, but it’s amazing how many people don’t actually follow through and drink the amount they should. To stay well-hydrated, both inside and out, you need to drink a minimum of eight glasses of water a day. Just consistently applying sunscreen and drinking eight glasses of water daily will keep you from having to spend a lot of money with a dermatologist or a skin care specialist as you age. And of course water is important for many other healthy functions as well.

It’s also important that you have some kind of regular exercise regimen, eat a healthy diet, and make sure you get lots of rest. A healthier body inside has a lot to do with keeping your skin looking its best. Maintaining a youthful look is primarily about prevention, so that you don’t have to spend money and time down the road with doctors trying to correct issues that you created earlier in life.

If you find your skin gets oily and you’re prone to have acne blemishes, following the aforementioned will be most helpful. It will also help to make sure you cleanse your face well morning and evening, using a very mild cleanser, and possibly following that with some kind of anti-blemish cream where needed.

When you grow older it’s easy to develop very dry skin, because you tend to have less oil and sweat glands in your skin. Since this may be something you’ve never had to deal with before, you will need to pay more attention to what’s contained in the soaps and facial cleansers you use to make sure they don’t contain any harsh chemicals. And you may even want to consider taking fewer showers during the week. You can still wash under your arms and breasts, between your legs, and particularly your privates. But be sure to use a moisturizing soap when you do shower or bathe. In fact, buying a good moisturizer is a good idea.

If you will simply follow these tips on keeping a youthful look, you’ll find that it works, and it will save you a lot of money at the doctor’s office trying to undo skin issues that could’ve been prevented.
